We almost used this, but also chose not to because of the word 'penance'. It's a fantastic introduction to Lent, but because we have so many previously Catholic people in our congregation---that word would be a barrier for them. It would be so easy to change that word to 'repentance' and have everyone on board!

Funny, you should say that David. I grew up in Protestant churches and am now a minister in one and never liked the word penance because of my Catholic friends' relation to it...it seemed like either a "wallowing in" or empty ritual. 40 years later, it seems appropriate in context. A sense of "owing" our lives to Christ and all that entails. Beautiful music! I am going to use this for our Youth Retreat this weekend to prepare them for communion and the entering into Lent. Perfect timing, thanks

Anybody else hear a little Downton Abbey in the song intro? :) Nice video. The word "penance" makes this a little difficult to use in a Protestant Bible church, though it fits in the sense of self-discipline and -denial.
